TBR: Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon Spring 2017

Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon is approaching rapidly and that means it is time for me to announce which books I plan to read this weekend.

Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon usually surprises me every year, often in a way that unfortunately means that I do not have time to participate. Fortunately, this year I remembered ahead of time and therefore I can say that I will definitely be joining all the lovely people who are doing the Readathon this weekend. I think it is a great way to bring the online book community together.

For the ones who do not know, Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon is a biannual global reading marathon. In 24 hours you are supposed to read. Just read. Well, some participants also post challenges, such as IG photo challenges, reading challenges like which books to read and so on. I hope to join Fig and Thistle Books’ hourly IG challenge depending on my progress during the readathon.

So what I am going to read? That is the question, isn’t it? Well, after some consideration I managed to construct a book pile. The reasons for these choices range from homework, upcoming TV-series, preparation for events, friend’s publication and review for another site.

• The Unwomanly Face of War by Svetlana Alexievich
  
  Alexievich won the Nobel Prize in 2015 and this summer she is coming to Louisiana Literature, a Danish literary festival, which I plan to visit. So I figured I would read what is possibly her most famous work.
• American Gods by Neil Gaiman
  
  I mean, I am a big Gaiman fan, plus the first episode of the new TV adaptation comes out on Sunday, PLUS this book has been on my bookshelf for about a year now. It is time to read it.
• Marble by Amalie Smith
  
  Despite the English original title, this book is actually in Danish and it is a piece homework for my literary history course this Monday. From what I have heard from my fellow students, it is a really good and quick read so it is ideal for a readathon of 24 hours.
• The New York Trilogy by Paul Auster
  
  Mostly I want to read this for the same reasons as I want to read Alexievich: He is coming to Louisiana Literature this summer and I want to read a work of his. Also, I read an excerpt of The New York trilogy in high school and loved it and about a year ago I found the book in a bookshop, so now I definitely have an excuse to read it.
• Købekælling by Anna Dyhr
  
  This is my friend’s publication that came out on March 8 this year, it has gotten raving reviews most places so I have to read it.
• Shylock is My Name by Howard Jacobson
  
  IT IS TIME TO GET THROUGH THIS ONE NOW. It is a review copy I received in November and I have wanted to read it for so long, but due to my reading trouble this semester I kept postponing it. Now is the time.
• For enden af din pegefinger by Kristina Aamand
  
  This book intrigued me ever since I read a review of it. It is a book about a young Muslim girl who finds out she falls in love with a girl.

I do not plan to read them in this order, but pick them depending on which I feel are more urgent as one of them is for school and another (Shylock) I have decided to prioritise because it is also for a review for another site. I will probably not finish all of them, but I like to give myself some options to choose from depending what I feel like after finishing one book.

In my time zone – Central European Time – the readathon it begins at 2 PM, so there is now less than 20 hours. I have picked up snacks and drinks for the readathon and I am preparing my reading space.
